The finish of a document is usually determined by the quality of products used, as well as the smoothness of the edges. For paper edges that are smooth and exact, a paper guillotine is effective. Paper guillotines are high-performing machines that can cut paper of many stocks. While paper guillotines are efficient, they need maintaining to keep them at their best. One element of the machine that needs regularly maintaining and using correctly is the blade.
Keep your guillotine blades sharp
Guillotine operators often only change or replace the guillotine blade as they get dull. If you get to the point where the blade is completely dull, then you will already be beyond the point of needing changing/replacing. Once the guillotine blade is dull it requires more clamping pressure for cutting, which can overtime cause damage to the guillotine. Blades should be changed/replaced often enough to keep them sharp and exact.
When it is time to replace your blade?
How long does a guillotine blade last? How often should you be getting your blade sharpened or replaced? Please see below for a general rule of thumb to follow.
Standard steel blade: Replace after 8 hours of operation
High speed steel blade: Replace after 16 hours of operation
Carbide/Tungsten blade: Replace after about 160 hours of operation
Depending on the type of guillotine blade knife used, this should give you a better idea on how often your blades need replacing/sharpening before they go dull.
